Networking As Secret Ingredient
Baker and award-winning poet Danny Klecko uses networking to grow his author career
I had a baby last week, a perfect little girl that I am over the moon about (pardon the cliche—my tired, newborn mom-brain can’t come up with anything more original right now, haha.)
Despite the exhaustion of this season, it is also one of deep joy. And I am in the mood to do something fun in my newsletter today. So despite the fact that I had a different newsletter topic pre-written for today, I am scrapping that and sharing something else, instead.
About a year ago, I was honored to get to interview Minneapolis baker and award-winning poet Danny Klecko. The interview is one of the bonuses in my self-paced course, “PREPARE: The Ultimate Book Marketing Foundation.”
My conversation with Klecko is one of my favorite ones to date. It is brimming with practical value and I have always wanted to find a way to use it more widely. So, I am temporarily unlocking it for you, my Substack readers, to enjoy. My celebratory gift to you.
The conversation details how Klecko has used networking to meet and talk with major book industry leaders and authors (including George Saunders!) and his method for developing sincere (not smarmy!) relationship-building strategies to grow his author career.
Klecko’s poetry won the Midwest Book Award from the Midwest Independent Publishing Association. After our conversation, his poetry was even published in The New York Times, where he has now been featured multiple times.
He is truly one of the best networkers I know in the Indie author space.
Enjoy!
