I love this! I definitely have the tendency to try and go too broad.

Do you have any advice for kid lit specifically in this regard? It's so tricky, since we're not actually marketing to the kids that might relate to our book, but to the teachers and librarians. So maybe that's the answer right there, is not to go too broad but focus on content that's helpful for teachers and librarians specifically?

Thanks, Sarah! Yes, I do think focusing on teachers and librarians specifically is a good start. Also, consider that for parents who buy these books for their kids, there are two ways they utilize books: one, independent reading for their kid (thus giving the parent a break) or read aloud books that the family can enjoy together. Whichever of those categories best describes your book, I would try focus on that angle, too. Parents will gush to other parents when they find a book that meets the needs of their kids, regardless of whether it is for independent reading or a book that all ages can enjoy.
